Safe Handling is Essential

Cast iron radiators are extremely heavy, and the way they are handled has a direct impact on their performance and longevity. Every radiator is pressure-tested before it leaves our factory, but incorrect handling—especially lifting horizontally—can put stress on the joints and lead to leaks. Many returns we see show clear signs of mishandling.

Even if you’re eager to get your radiators installed, always take the time to carry them properly.

Recommended Lifting Method

The safest way to move a cast iron radiator is by using short padded wooden bars as makeshift handles:

  • Cut two short pieces of wood, slightly wider than the radiator.

  • Pad them with soft material to prevent marking the surface.

  • Insert one at each end of the radiator, between the last two sections.

  • With one person on each end, lift and carry the radiator upright at all times.

For larger, heavier radiators:

  • Insert a third wooden bar closer to the center.

  • With one person at each corner, four people can lift and move the radiator safely, even up stairs or through narrow doorways.

This is the correct way to handle a cast iron radiator and prevents damage to the joints and seals.
