Carrying Cast Iron Radiators

Your cast iron radiators will be securely packaged and delivered on a pallet via our trusted pallet network partners. It is essential that you thoroughly inspect your radiators for any damage upon arrival. Unpack them immediately and stand each radiator upright to check for any issues. Proper handling is also crucial when moving your cast iron radiators into your property. While there is often a rush to install traditional radiators, it is vital to carry them correctly to avoid damage. Every radiator is pressure tested before leaving our factory, but cast iron is extremely heavy, and incorrect handling—particularly carrying them horizontally—can place stress on the central joints and potentially cause leaks. Returned radiators often show signs of improper handling.

The recommended method is to use two short lengths of wood, slightly wider than the radiator, padded with soft packaging material. These should be inserted at each end of the radiator to allow safe, upright lifting, as illustrated below:

With two pieces of wood, one at or near either end, two individuals can carry most cast iron radiators as shown below:

For extremely large and heavy cast iron radiators, a third piece of wood can be added towards the centre of the radiator and four people can carry a traditional radiator with one on either side.

This is the correct way to carry a cast iron radiator and can be used to carry a traditional radiator up stairs and through doorways.
